A place for joy. I am a retired Connecticut English and history teacher who enjoys reading, writing, traveling, cooking, wellness, hygge, observational humor, music, dogs, and meditation. I am blessed to have lived a life of love, filled with family and friends.

Who Rescued Who or Whom

His name is Butterbean.

He is a rescue from Kentucky.

His background story, unknown.

Back in 2009, I went to Kentucky for my class reunion. My 25th.

Our family had rescued a lab from Kentucky Lab Rescue in 2005. I told the Kentucky Lab Rescue we wanted another dog. Specifically, I wanted a brown, female lab. This is what we got.(Before you get unsettled with me, our family has donated and rescued dogs),

Clearly he ain’t no “brown, female lab.”

His name is Butter Bean, and he is the sweetest dog you ever met.

Seriously, Bean could have the lead in a movie, music video, (#JohnMellencamp), or commercial for Farxiga. Imagine Butter Bean parading himself through “Grease?” “The Sound of Music?” “Secretariat?” My Bean is movie star quality.

Notice, I never put him in “Old Yeller.”

Bean is near the end.

Bean loved Downton Abbey, especially the episodes with Isis.

Dan would head upstairs when the Viking River Cruise commercial came on, “Imagine yourself cruising down the,,,” I’d look at Bean and say, “Daddy (Dan) doesn’t get it, but we WILL do that Cruise.”

Bean watched every episode of Modern Family with Dan, Grace, and me, He was NOT a fan of the epsisode with the smoke detectors,

We always watched The Pope on Christmas Eve.

Bean stayed with me when I graded papers late in the night. I’d grumble about student writing and he’d give me a look.

His favorite spot is in the kitchen. He loves to watch me cook. He sits outside my cooking area and watches me with adoring eyes.

Children will give you looks, They will be pissed.

You will never be the perfect parent, Eventually, they will love you.

But dogs? They will always have your back. And Bean has mine.
